Today is the last day of Spring Break for my girls.  We will be hitting up a couple thrift stores this morning.  I hope to start posting some cards and scrapbook pages soon!

Altered Cookbook: 1st Few Pages!!!

Two nights ago my mom, some of her friends and I had a little scrapbooking get-together. Here is what came out of it for me:

The picture on the first page is of me and my little sis. I'll admit that  sometimes we get along without axing each other :] Here are some close-ups:

The second one (my favorite!): Oh, and, don't think that those "Valentine's Day roses" are from somebody special--my mom just got them for free at Trader Joe's. Both of us do have special someones, though :)

The picture in the last page is of our cat named Ringo. He's such a fatty and is King of the house--we all practically bow down to him. But how can you not? Just look at that face!!! GAH!

The only real paper I used for these pages was that of the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook itself and a few scraps. I just painted the pages with gesso and acryllic paints for a washed-out effect. The chevron stamp in the background of pages 1 and 2 is by Hero Arts, CLiNGS, and the awesome woodgrain stamp in the third is a part of the Tim Holtz collection by Stampers Anonymous. What little other paper I used was from 7gypsies and vintage books and magazines.

Oh yeah! And all the pictures were taken through Instagram, the amazing photo-manipulating app you can get for free at the App Store. This was the first time I printed any pictures out that I took on my iPad, and I was surprised by the quality of how they turned out.  Love ya, Instagram! Love ya, Apple!

Altered...Cookbook?

Hey, it's Emily again! I've been wanting to make an altered book/scrapbook for a long time but the idea of changing up an entire novel to make it into a piece of art is a bit intimidating (well...more than a bit!) so as I was thrifting for the right book (one would need to have a strong, sewn binding so that it wouldn't fall apart when altered) I came across a neat old cookbook--the Better Homes and Gardens new Cook Book. Turns out it's not so new--I was overjoyed to look inside and find that it was printed in 1962. It was in great condition with interesting colors and perfectly yellowed pages, so I decided that this would make a nice alternative to the normal altered book. It is in a binder, so I can add and take out pages as I wish, or make entirely new pages to add as my own. With other vintage books and magazines along with mixed media and scrapbooking supplies, I'm going to make this cookbook into a unique piece of art...hopefully ;D TTYL

Having Fun With Instagram App!

Yep. The title just about says it all. Plus I just wanted to post some cute pictures just to see how they look on the new blog :D

P.S. This is my favorite mug! And it's filled with yummy hot cocoa made from scratch! By the time I'd finished taking pictures of it, it wasn't very hot anymore...
